AZAFADY

Azafady is an award-winning British registered charity (number 1079121) partnered with an independent Malagasy NGO. Founded in 1994, we work on a wide range of projects both within the town of Fort Dauphin and with numerous rural communities across the Anosy region. They approached EOCA about spreading the message about their volunteering opportunities.

Aafady's mission is to alleviate poverty and conserve unique and biologically rich but greatly endangered forest environments in south east Madagascar by empowering some of the poorest people to establish sustainable livelihoods for themselves and improve their well-being.

Their approach is one of partnership with local communities as we work to alleviate poverty and support environmental conservation. Their integrated sustainable development initiatives support some of the world's most vulnerable people in threatened and irreplaceable environments.

All of their projects are sensitively built around what are directly expressed to be the most pressing needs of marginalised communities. They have over 12 years of project experience in south east Madagascar and during this time have developed strong working relationships with the local population, maximising their participation in all stages of project development, design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Azafady is a recognised regional specialist in capacity building at the community level (empowerment, information, education and training, advocacy) and it is estimated that over 100,000 people have benefited from our projects over the last decade.

Azafady has a number of unique and challenging volunteer placements in Madagascar. Whether your passion is sustainable community development or vital conservation work, Azafady can offer you an unforgettable experience.

Whichever programme you choose you will be benefiting from Azafady's extensive experience in Madagascar with each scheme led by an award-winning team of project coordinators. No particular skills are required to volunteer with us and training is given locally but if you do have particular experience in areas relevant to your programme then this will enhance your contribution.

Volunteering with them could help you choose a new direction in life or develop a career path you may already be on. It might be both a personal highlight and a practical stepping stone in a gap year or, for anyone at any time, a great way to go abroad for much more than just a holiday.

EOCA Funded Projects

If you are an individual who loves the great outdoors and would like to support our projects, please click the donate button below. During 2017, all money donated will fund tree planting in Nepal as part of our 2 Million Tree Project.
The funding is enabling us to repair a damaged section of the iconic Three Peaks long distance footpath and restore an area of internationally important upland habitat. Voting for our project was a simple but highly effective way for our supporters to show how strongly they felt about improving access and protecting the landscape of this wonderful area. Thank you , EOCA!
